Ikea Design Hacks | Part 2 | 2017

Ikea Design Hacks | Part 2 | 2017

So I have been reading this book called the Less of More.

It’s about how we can live with less ‘stuff’ in our lives to find our true passions.

Of course as someone who loves design and trends this can be a bit of a scary thought.

But…I am really leaning into this concept. Working with what I have and making it better is a fun way to do this and get creative.

One of the most popular videos are the one’s where I share a so called ‘hack!’

I think the reason is we all want to add new things to our home and life and if we can find inexpensive ways to do that allow us to get creative and do it ourself it makes it even that much more special.

So…this week’s #DecorWithLove TV is 4 simple items that you may have already, and how you can elevate them in your home.

Home Tour 2017

Home Tour 2017

Do you ever wonder how to finish your space? Or about creating a consistent colour palette that flows room to room?

One of the biggest challenges I hear is “How do I pull together a room?”

I can relate. Sometimes our spaces are a mis-match of furniture, colour and style.

As much as I can try to explain it to you, a visual story is always the best. Plus getting to peak inside someone’s home if fun too 🙂

So in today’s #DecorWithLove TV I’m taking you on a little Home Tour.

This was one of my very first and still favourite projects. It was also the first time my work was published in a national magazine — Style at Home.

There are a few tips and tricks I used to decorate this space that I hope will inspire you.

And make sure to watch until the very end because I have a free giveaway you won’t want to miss out on.

If you think any of your friends or family would benefit from my weekly decor tips, feel free to send them this newsletter.

Wallpaper Design Tips

Wallpaper Design Tips

It’s been an interesting time!

There is a mix of design projects going on right now and I’m realizing more and more “That’s how I like it” (cue the Bruno Mars song). Having different projects that challenge me in creative ways.

What I also know is you can bring creativity forward in so many different ways. Your business, your day to day, hobbies and for sure your HOME.

I want you to get inspired — that’s why I do what I do.

One of my favourite things is choosing wallpaper with a client. I think I have a new ‘rule.’ Every space must have WALLPAPER somewhere!

The reason? It creates so much character, personality, texture and honestly just overall goodness to your home.

So if you’ve thought about wallpaper, but were a bit scared, I hear you!

It’s a bit overwhelming and feels like a major commitment. But, wallpaper has come a long way and it’s not the wallpaper of the 80’s anymore.

In today’s new #DecorWithLove TV I’ll share 3 things you need to consider before you purchase your wallpaper!

Make sure to watch till the end because I have a giveaway for you and it’s a goodie!

What is Hygge?

What is Hygge? Watch Karla Dreyer on CBC's Our Vancouver.

How do the happiest people in the world live?

Have you ever wanted your home to be a collection of what you truly love and is useful too?

My hands are in the air!

As we’re getting into Spring and with every new season it’s a time for a fresh start in many areas of life, especially home.

I want to share with you some of the things that the happiest people in the world do. Yes, the happiest people in the world — the Danish!

They follow a way of living called Hygge (pronounced Hooga).

I started seeing this word all over social media and so I dived a bit deeper. What I found really resonated with me.

In essence, the Hygge way of living and home is taking pleasure in the simple, meaningful things. Think candles, linens, greenery, cozy and warm environments.

Sound good? Yup..it did to me to.

I recently shared some simple ways you can bring this way of life into your homes and heart on CBC’s Our Vancouver.

Spring Crafts For Kids

Spring Crafts for Kids

Well, for many of us it’s Spring Break time for the kids.

I’m going to be honest. It’s a juggle. Keeping the littles occupied and having fun while trying to still get things done.

No matter the age of the kids getting them using their creativity is one of my favourite things.

So I took some ideas to my board of kid directors and found 4 Spring Break Boredom Busters that my kids love and I hope yours do too.

I share them this week with City TV’s Breakfast Television. You can also witness my live DIY blunders — kids are much better at these than me!

Happy Crafting!

House Tour 2017

House Tour 2017

If you are like me, peaking into someone’s home and how they live is kinda fun — or is that called being nosey?

Whether it’s fashion, cooking or any other creative expression, seeing how others do it always provides some sort of inspo we can bring into our lives.

Today’s video is a little different — I’m sharing a House Tour!

This is a project I did last year that was featured in Style at Home Magazine and recently in Rue Magazine as well.

This condo has gotten some big lovin and I thought it would be fun to break it down for you.

Let me give you some tips you can use in your space and at the end of the video I also included a shopping list of some of the items of this project!

If you think any of your friends and family would like this video and tips, I’d love it you could forward this video to them as well.

Studio Apartment Design

Studio Apartment Design

Three and a half years ago I woke up with slight panic attack.

To make a long story (sort of) short we shaved off about 3,000 square feet of living space to move back into the city.

I went from having a room for everything, plus more, to moving to a smaller space that required me to get creative.

I wouldn’t trade it for anything, as city living is in my soul, but I definitely learned some lessons along the way.

Small spaces are some of my favourite projects, but I’ll be honest, it requires some careful planning and a few tricks to get it feeling right.

In today’s Decor With Love TV, I’m sharing some small space tips particularily for those who are studio living. But whether you have a small space or not — if you want a space with cohesiveness, that maximizes storage and want to get creative — this video is for you!

Bathroom on a Budget

Bathroom on a Budget

Question for you — Does your bathroom bring you joy?

I’ve been doing a little secret poll with my past and current clients and I’d say 95% of them DON’T like their bathroom.

BUT….it goes to the back of the list. Let’s be honest, doing a reno can be a ton of work, not to mention money.

I’ve been putting together a few “budget bathroom designs” and thought some of these tips may be helpful for you.

In today’s Decor With Love TV I’m sharing some of my favourite tips and things you need to consider when doing a bathroom reno on a budget.

AND…I’ve included a FREE Bathroom on a Budget Design Board and where the items are from (included in the video).

Rental Apartment Decorating Ideas

Rental Apartment Decorating Ideas

I want to tell you about a design consultation I recently had.

The client was an amazing woman with a fantastic space near the beach. I was so excited for this project.

But…once we were done the consultation she finished by saying “I don’t know if I should even bother decorating as I’m just renting!”

What!? This really got me fired up — in a good way!

Whether you rent, or maybe you’re ‘not in your dream space’ yet, doesn’t mean you don’t DESERVE to have a home you love!

As Oprah says (yes, I’m quoting Oprah) “You’re home should rise up to meet you.”

So whether you rent or not, today’s #DecorWithLove TV can apply to anyone if you want to know what to invest in, how to decorate in ways that can be changed easily and some new things that are on the market.
